Central Library of National Institute of Health is a specialized bio-medical Library which was established in 1967 for the promotion of health literature services amongst doctors, scientists, researchers & students. It offers an excellent study & research environment and access to a wide range of resources, facilities and services to improve, update, assess & evaluate the health system.

Department Functions

Subscription of digital resources under HEC Digital Library.

The division stands the unique status of being sole appellate laboratory in whole of Pakistan to perform pharmaceutical analysis under section 22 (5) of the Drugs Act, 1976. It was notified as Federal Drug Appellate Laboratory (FDAL) under S.R.O. No. F.2-12/76-QCA for the purpose of sub-section (5) of section 22 of the Drugs Act, 1976 (XXXI of 1976). Its main function is to perform Quality Control Testing of Pharmaceutical Products and Medical Devices as appellate laboratory for various samples received from Provincial Quality Control Boards, DRAP and Drug Courts.

Federal Narcotics Testing Laboratory

Federal Narcotics Testing Laboratory was notified under S.R.O. 596 (I)/97 in exercises of powers conferred under section 34 of Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997. It is the Only Laboratory in Pakistan that performs quantitative and qualitative analyses of narcotics and psychotropic substances confiscated through various law enforcing agencies such as Police, ANF, Customs, Coast Guards, Intelligence etc. under section 34 of CNS Act, 1997.

Multi-Disciplinary Research Laboratory

It is involved in collection and processing of pollen grains of different allergy causing plants and supply of these processed pollens to Biological Production Division for the production of allergy vaccines. It is also involved in provision research facilities to students of various universities/ institutes across the country. It is also involved in screening of medicinal products for adulteration of steroids in Homeopathic and Unani medicines.
