The National Institute of Health (NIH) organized a training on “Laboratory Diagnostics of XDR Salmonella typhi at Institute of Public Health, Quetta, Pakistan. The aim of the training was to increase diagnostic capacity of XDR Salmonella typhi in the laboratories, so as to strengthen the surveillance mechanisms on AMR. The participants including microbiologists and lab technicians/ technologists from different hospitals and laboratories were trained on the standard practices of Salmonella typhi culture, biochemical testing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.The capacity building of laboratory workers was carried out in terms of sample handling, preservation, transportation, IPC practices and use of recommended panels of antimicrobial agents against S. typhi.
