DCTMD Staff Trained on Sophisticated Analytical Instruments

The Drugs Control and Traditional Medicines Division staff is trained on sophisticated analytical
instruments. The equipments of worth USD 700,000 are supplied by Global Fund (GFATM) and
Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination. They include Gas Chromatograph-
Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), Gas Chromatograph (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatograph
(HPLC), IR-Tracer, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Disintegration Apparatus, Dissolution Apparatus,
Moisture Analyser, Power Lab, Water Distillation Apparatus, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator, Top
Loading Balance, Electronic Balance, and Biosafety Cabinet. This equipment will help strengthen
the capabilities of DCTMD which is serving as an appellate drugs testing laboratory under section 22
of sub-section 5 of Drugs Act, 1976. The other objective of this strengthening is to acquire ISO 17025
and ISO 9001:2015 certification and to develop expertise for the analysis of complementary and
alternate medicines which has been now regulated by DRAB Act, 2012. The trained man power in
future will also extend its support to other research institute and drug testing laboratories of the
country.
