1. Introduction
The Hospital Wing is one of the division of NIH was established under an approved PC-1 in 1983. Previously it was just providing limited emergency services to the employees of NIH, their dependants and the rural population residing around the NIH, catchment area Islamabad. In order to enhance the services for the residents of adjacent localities and to ensure proper utilizations of indoor facilities as desired by Secretary Health, Ministry of Health, the Hospital Wing has been handed over to the PIMS administration in order to run it as a 24 hours full fledge 50 bedded PIMS, Satellite Hospital w.e.f 1st February, 2005.
2. Objectives
The main purpose is to provide health care services to the NIH employees, their families, and other governmental/non-governmental offices and surrounding populations on 24 hours basis.

The Executive Director of PIMS is the overall head of the PIMS, Satellite Hospital.

5. Performance
& Achievements
On the direction of Secretary Health, Ministry of Health and under the supervision of PIMS administration, the utmost efforts have been made for the up-gradation of the hospital as full fledged indoor facilities along with OPD and ambulatory care services to the surrounding population of chakshahzad, Islamabad.

More than 27,000 patients are being attended per year in PIMS, Satellite Hospital. |

More than 2852 Animal Bite cases have been managed since 01-07-2005 to 2009. |

Ante-natal/ Gynae OPD has been started for maternal and child health since 2007. |

X-Ray department has been up-graded with latest 500.m.a X-Ray machines and 02 portable X-Ray units of 70.m.a with latest film process and proper dark room construction. |

A huge number of latest/sophisticated electro medical equipments have been achieved for PIMS
Satellite Hospital through the Women Health Project's diagnostic and research component after making the tedious and utmost efforts. It is big achievement and addition in the assets of NIH. To make use of these equipments for modification and up-gradation of PIMS Satellite Hospital as MCH, Centre new PC-I has been prepared with the help of PWD. |

Mini intercom telephone exchanged has been installed at PIMS Satellite Hospital. |

New Transformer of 630 KVA has been installed which will be sufficient to fulfill the requirement of even 200 bedded hospital in future. |

Refresher Classes for the awareness of Hospital waste Management have been arranged among the Nurses and Paramedics in coordination with training centre PIMS. Proper system of hospital waste disposal has been introduced and is being strictly monitored. |

6. Programs and Projects
Rabies Prevention & Control Programme Pakistan In Collaboration with Ministry of Health / WHO / NIH.
National Coordinator for Rabies Prevention and Control Programme, Pakistan's Office. The project is running and taking care of animal bite cases regarding management and awareness.
The animal bite cases from all the hospitals are referred to the National Rabies Referral and Treatment Center at PIMS Satellite Hospital for treatment and management.

Gynae / ante-natal OPD is running on daily basis in collaboration with MCH Centre PIMS.
The EPI centre working in the Hospital is giving coverage to children against the six killer diseases plus hepatitis vaccine. |

The Family Planning Center is providing all the latest and modern techniques of family planning. |

Emergency services to allergy and asthmatic patients coming to Allergy Center free of cost. |

Doing Annual Medical Examination of BPD employees at NIH and Quality Control Department's officers and staff every year.

This hospital is running with the collaboration of PIMS, IH, and NIH, Islamabad.
8. Future Plans
PC-I for modification and up-gradation of PIMS Satellite Hospital as MCH, Centre has been prepared by PWD on the direction of PIMS and Submitted to E.D PIMS on 07-04-2009 and sent to Ministry of Health on 17-04-2009.

Arranging seminars & refresher courses for training of medical professionals.

Health education program & campaigns for general public awareness, like hygiene, sanitations , safe drinking water , using iodized salt, immunization for children, ORS use in Diarrhea, Growth monitoring, good nutrition for mother & child & good Ante-natal care & its importance etc.

Establishment of skin clinic for allergy patients coming to allergy centre from all over the Pakistan.

Gardening and plantation will be added to improve the surrounding of the hospital atmosphere.

Free Medical Camps from various Pharmaceutical companies will be arranged in the surrounding villages at Chakshahzad to provide medicines to the poor patients and create awareness about health among them.

Role of PIMS Satellite Hospital During Earthquake Crises
After the earthquake disaster, on 8th October 2005, the 50 bedded indoor services were given to earthquake affectees, by shifting all the post operative children with amputations and fractures from children hospital of PIMS. For the initial 3 months after earth quake (October, November, December 2005), the hospital was run on purely donation basis including all the expenses like diet, medicines, etc;
With the limited number of staff and no official budget released by Ministry of Health, a sum of 350 earthquake victims including 75 paraplegic patients have been treated and cured in Rehabilitation Centre at PIMS Satellite Hospital so far, with nil deaths and 100% wound recovery rate.
All the paraplegic patients of earthquake disaster, referred from different hospitals have been treated at Rehabilitation Centre of PIMS Satellite Hospital and given different re-habilitation programs with all the latest diagnostic and Gymnasium facilities.
PIMS Satellite Hospital also got the services of different NGO’s for the better care of earthquake affectees at Rehabilitation Centre. Different items were achieved from them like medicines, catheters, prosthesis, orthosis, knee-immobilizers, Walkers, Ripple Mattresses and different items for gymnasium.
Two workshops have been arranged at NIHD with the coordination of WHO and NIHD for training of Physiotherapists, Medical Officers, Nurses, Psychologists and Occupational Therapists to give best possible health care at Rehabilitation Centre
